ROSACEA
Rosacea is a long-term skin condition that often appears as facial redness, visible blood vessels, and occasional flare-ups of bumps or spots. For many people, it can feel like a constant battle, especially when symptoms are unpredictable or triggered by everyday factors like the weather, certain foods, or stress.
While rosacea isn’t dangerous, it can be deeply frustrating, particularly when it starts to affect self-esteem or confidence.
At The Shiny Touch, we offer a calm, personalised approach to treating rosacea. While there’s no cure, the right combination of treatments and skincare can help keep your skin settled, reduce flare-ups, and give you back a greater sense of control.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is rosacea and what does it look like?
Rosacea can vary from person to person, but most people first notice persistent redness across their cheeks, nose, chin, or forehead. This redness may come and go or linger for longer periods. Over time, small bumps or spots, often mistaken for acne, can develop.
Some people also experience a burning or stinging sensation, and in more advanced cases, the skin around the nose can begin to thicken.
Another form of rosacea affects the eyes, making them feel dry, gritty or irritated. Called ocular rosacea, this type can be especially uncomfortable and may need a combined approach with an eye specialist.
What causes Rosacea? We still don’t know exactly why rosacea develops, but experts believe it’s linked to a mix of genetic, environmental and immune system factors. What we do know is that it tends to react to certain triggers. These can include sun exposure, changes in temperature, spicy foods, alcohol (especially red wine), hot drinks, emotional stress, or even skincare products that are too harsh. Understanding your own triggers is a key part of managing the condition. During your consultation at TST, we’ll talk through your lifestyle, skincare routine and flare-up history to help identify what might be making your symptoms worse.
What causes pigmentation issues? Several factors contribute to pigmentation, and identifying the root cause can make all the difference when it comes to selecting the right treatment. The most common triggers include: Sun Exposure: UV rays stimulate melanin, causing everything from freckles to sunspots. Repeated exposure can lead to patchy, uneven skin tone over time. Hormones: Fluctuations in oestrogen and progesterone can increase melanin levels, resulting in conditions like melasma. Inflammation or Trauma: Even something as simple as a bug bite or mild burn can lead to post-inflammatory marks. Genetics: Some people are naturally more prone to pigmentation issues, making it even more important to find the right skincare approach.
What treatment options are available? Our approach to rosacea is always tailored to your skin and your lifestyle. Treatments aim to calm inflammation, reduce redness and strengthen your skin barrier. Depending on your needs, we may recommend gentle light-based therapies like LED and IPL, calming skin peels, or microneedling (once your skin is stable enough for it) or new treatment Microneedling with Exosomes. Alongside professional treatments, we often build a simple, soothing skincare routine using medical-grade products that support your skin’s natural defences. If necessary, we can also advise on prescription options that your GP or dermatologist may be able to provide, such as topical creams or low-dose antibiotics to reduce inflammation during flare-ups. The goal is always the same: to help you feel more confident in your skin, and to give you long-term tools to manage your symptoms gently and effectively.
When Should I seek help for rosacea? If you’ve been living with persistent redness, frequent flushing, or breakouts that don’t seem to respond to over-the-counter products, it’s worth booking a consultation. Rosacea is often mistaken for other conditions like acne or dermatitis, so getting the right diagnosis is key to treating it properly. Early management makes a big difference as if left untreated, rosacea often worsens over time. With the right care, it’s possible to calm your skin and prevent things from escalating. Rosacea can be unpredictable, but your treatment doesn’t have to be. At The Shiny Touch, we’re here to guide you through the options, explain everything clearly, and create a plan that works with your skin, not against it. Book a consultation today and take the first step toward calmer, more comfortable skin.
